I have always enjoyed the taste of cola. I did not want to admit to it for the longest time. Cola-shaming by society was part of it. There has always been something low-brow about cola like the American Pie movie series. I am not going down the rabbit hole of corporates are evil and trying to poison me. I try to understand what I drink and take responsibility for it.
Cola was not a guilty pleasure. It was a guilty necessity. I truly enjoyed the drink the way some people enjoy good potato chips, biriyani, chocolate or some Indian sweets.
Anyways cut to present day. Here’s how I get my Cola-fix. I usually have a cola drink thrice a week. Twice in the form of the Mossant cola kombucha. And once in the form of the imported Diet Coke from Singapore or Malaysia. The imported Diet Coke does not have the weird after-taste of its Indian counterpart. It costs a bomb though. And Mossant’s cola kombucha tastes like Thums Up if you snag an old batch that has not been stored at the right temperature. Sometimes I’ll just have three kombuchas a week instead. Needless to say, I’ve gone weeks without it and suffer no withdrawal.
But all round, I get to have my cola and drink it too. And I am not getting a wackily high dose of any man-made sweetener (sucrose included).
Moderation and portion control are great tools to enjoy the food and beverages you truly enjoy. Instead of trying to avoid food groups entirely, try and behave like an adult and say no to extra helpings or servings. Call me old-fashioned, but will-power trumps exclusion based on voodoo science.
