I was at the beach last evening waiting for my daughter to wrap up a class. I worked out at the beach. Did a few squats and pull ups. The weather was beautiful. Cool, crisp air. Lovely breeze.
The only life forms using the open air gym equipment were four crows perched on the dip stands and pull up bars.
The Popeyes and KFC fried chicken outlets right next to the beach were packed.
We bemoan the lack of public space to exercise. The beach was empty. The pull up bars, cinder blocks and dip stands were fine.
Even when the physical space presents itself, the lack of physical culture can keep you from using it. The empty parks and unused pull up bars to hang on are the norm. We don’t get to complain about what we don’t have when we refuse to use the little that we do have.
