A box jump fail is not fun. Just google it. And I have no intention of opening my fail account.
I do jump work for 2-3 months of the year.
Box jumps, drop landings, broad jumps, split squat jumps etc.
I also approach the 42 inch box with a sense of dread. And I know clients feel the same way about the box jump. Regardless of height.
So here’s how I trick my brain.
I stand on a 6 inch box, which turns the 42 inch box into a 36 inch jump. That jump is comfortable.
I then cut the step under me by 2 inches. This makes it a 38 inch jump.
And then 40. And then 42.
Multiple attempts go through and the brain is comfortable again. Next stop 48 inches.
Jumps are hard for adults who have a poor sense of estimation of height and are not confident of producing the force required to make the jump even when the capacity exists.
Building confidence gradually and incrementally increasing the height improves the confidence required to execute a jump.
