There are no steroids in your whey

Random family member while watching me sip on a whey shake: You know whey protein has steroids in it right?

Me: Do you know how much steroids cost? If a whey protein dealer is actually mixing tren into whey isolate, do you know how stupidly expensive it would be?

I ran into this advertisement on WhatsApp for anabolic compounds. It caught me off guard. I did not expect it to be peddled this openly.

Based on what you buy, it costs between Rs 2000 and Rs 4000 for an injection. The stuff isn’t cheap. An average bodybuilder spends more than the street value of 4 kgs of whey isolate on a month of anabolics. The professionals spend even more. The idea that 1 kg of whey is doped with this stuff is absurd.

Takeaway

It is very unlikely that the whey you buy has steroids in it. If there is any contamination (heavy metals, pesticides), it is more likely it was from what the cow that gave milk for producing the whey was fed. Or the contamination was from the factory that the whey water (run off) was processed into a whey concentrate or isolate.

All these anabolic compounds are entirely unnecessary to be good at training, improve quality of life and pack on the muscle.

Some folks advocate for sensible use, measured dosages etc. I have no clue how that would be possible given the competitive benefits of larger doses.

For bodybuilding, athletics and anyone in a rush to look a certain way, these compounds are seen as necessary evil to compete effectively. This is tragic and feels avoidable. Yet here we are.
